PURIFIED WATER SYSTEM INSTALLATION CHECKS ORBITAL WELDING
Orbital Welding is carried out to verify the welding joints & tubing section for their alignment, weld bead should be regular & uniform, and weld over run should be absent, internal shape of welds should be concave and pinholes should be absent. Argon gas (99.995%) is used for Orbital Welding.
SLOPE VERIFICATION
Appropriate slopes in pipes should be provided during the time of installation to ensure proper drainage. The ratio of the slope to the length of pipe should not be more than 1:100. Pipe slopes are maintained such that water from the system is drainable to a low drain.
BOROSCOPY
Boroscopy is used in the review and inspection of piping interior surface and weld joints of the pipes. It is the contemporary practice of pharmaceutical industry to use boroscope for documentation of orbital welding joints for inspection and review purposes. It is accomplished through small holes a few millimetres in diameter by means of a special oriental probe, which transmits images directly to an LCD/LED monitor and can obtain in video as well as still images.
DEAD LEG VERIFICATION
Water is circulated continuously through the pipelines throughout the manufacturing plant, it helps the water system to prevent the formation of biofilms. But there is some space between the circulation loop and the valve at the user point, this section of stagnant water is known as Dead Leg. Dead leg verification is a procedure to ensure that dead leg in branch piping is measured and meet to the requirement of less than equal to 2 d wherever possible.
HYDRO TEST
A Hydrostativ Test is a type of Pressure test in which process components such as pipelines, piping, pressure vessels and fuel tanks can be tested for their strength and leaks. The procedure involves filling the test system with a liquid (Water) and pressurising it to a specified test pressure
PASSIVATION
Passivation is the method used to fortify the steel surface by strong oxidising chemicals such as nitric acid. Fill RO/Softened water up to the half level of loop piping, add 2% of HNO3 & circulate the solution for 60 minutes. After 60 minutes drain the acid solution from bottom of the tank and fill again with 2% of NaOH and circulate the solution for 60 minutes and drain. Maintain the pH of water to neutral (5-7).
