1. Introduction for Cleaning and Operation of MCAS ECO Compressed Air/Nitrogen Gas Sampler:
The MCAS ECO Compressed Air/Nitrogen Gas Sampler is used in the Quality Control Department for checking the quality of compressed air or nitrogen gas used in pharmaceutical operations. This SOP explains the correct method for operating and cleaning the sampler so that reliable and accurate test results can be obtained. The procedure is applicable to QC personnel responsible for gas sampling and testing. Before starting the test, the outlet of the compressed air or nitrogen sampling point is connected to the inlet of the MCAS ECO sampler. The gas supply is then started, and the required pressure is adjusted using the pressure regulator. After this, the required flow rate is set through the rotameter according to the test requirement and the manufacturer’s instructions. A suitable detector tube is selected for the particular test. Both ends of the detector tube are carefully broken, and the tube is inserted into the rotameter pump in the correct direction. Gas is allowed to pass through the tube for the specified sampling period. After completion of the sampling time, the detector tube is removed and the result is read from the end of the colour-change layer. The observed result is then recorded. The sampler must be cleaned before and after every use. Cleaning is performed using a lint-free duster moistened with filtered 70% v/v IPA. Important precautions include handling the glass detector tube carefully while breaking its ends, verifying the calibration status of the rotameter and pressure gauge, and ensuring that gas pressure and flow remain within the limits required for the specific Gastec detector tube. These controls help maintain operator safety, equipment reliability, and consistent testing results.

The flow diagram explains the step-by-step process for the cleaning and operation of the MCAS ECO Compressed Air/Nitrogen Gas Sampler used in the Quality Control Department. The process starts by connecting the compressed air or nitrogen gas sampling point to the sampler inlet and starting the gas supply. The required pressure is then adjusted using the regulator, followed by setting the specified flow rate through the rotameter according to the test requirement. Next, the appropriate detector tube is selected. Both ends of the tube are carefully broken, and the tube is inserted into the rotameter pump in the correct direction. Gas is allowed to pass through the detector tube for the specified sampling time. After sampling is completed, the tube is removed, the colour-change indication is observed, and the result is recorded. The diagram also highlights the cleaning requirement. The sampler must be cleaned before and after each use using a lint-free duster dipped in filtered 70% v/v IPA.

Important precautions include careful handling of the glass detector tube, checking the calibration status of the rotameter and pressure gauge, and ensuring that gas pressure and flow remain within the specified limits for the selected detector tube.
